Scroll Readers
A free, browser-based reading enhancement tool. Upload a PDF, choose a formatting style and color palette, and read the result in a comfortable view. Everything runs locally — no accounts, no servers, no data collection.
How it works
- Upload a PDF.
- Pick an emphasis mode and palette.
- Read the formatted text directly in the browser.
- Optionally download a formatted PDF copy.
Emphasis modes
- First letter — bolds the opening character of each word.
- First 2 letters — bolds the first two characters.
- Random prefix — bolds 1 to N leading characters at random.
- Vowel emphasis — bolds the first character and all vowels.
- Syllable emphasis — bolds the start of each syllable.
Optional modifiers:
- Symmetrical anchoring — bolds the beginning and end of each word.
- Skip doubled letters — unbolds characters next to identical ones.
Customization over prescription
No single formatting style works for everyone. Some readers prefer light anchoring, others want heavier emphasis, and some find vowel or syllable patterns more natural. Scroll Readers gives you the controls to experiment and decide for yourself.
Palettes
- Warm Peach, Cream, Yellow — soft backgrounds for extended reading.
- Dark Mode — light text on dark background.
- Dyslexia-friendly — off-white background with muted lavender emphasis.
Bold characters use a distinct color from the base text, so emphasis is visible through both weight and color.
Accessibility
Reading comfort is the primary goal. The palette system, configurable emphasis, and clean rendering exist so users can adapt the tool to their needs — reducing glare, adjusting contrast, or trying unfamiliar styles. The project makes no clinical claims. It provides formatting tools and leaves the evaluation to the reader.
Terms
Scroll Readers is free to use. Your files never leave your browser — nothing is uploaded, collected, or stored. The project is provided as-is without warranty. You are free to share and link to it.
